ANC – Mon, Nov 25, 2013Three lawmakers from the United States are in the country to express their strong support for our government’s massive relief operations in Yolanda-ravaged Visayas.
New Jersey Congressman Chris Smith led the delegation that made a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs Sec. Albert del Rosario.
“I want you to know that we will be as helpful, working as partners with the Filipino people with who we had an enormous bond for well over a century,” Smith said.
Earlier, Smith saw for himself the typhoon’s devastation in Tacloban City, Leyte. Aside from Smith, Texas congressman Al Green and Arizona lawmaker Trent Franks visited the country. Del Rosario said the Philippines is grateful for the overwhelming humanitarian assistance from the United States in the aftermath of the unprecedented storm.
“The tragedy brought about by Typhoon Yolanda is indeed unfortunate. The resilience of the Filipino people will get our nation through this devastation…
We’re blessed that we have a reliable ally like the United States to help us rise above this crisis.
Ours is a history of standing together, steadfast and resolute. Ours is a partnership, firm and unwavering. Once more we lock arms to defeat despair and to bring hope,” del Rosario said.
