Australia gives 1,000 tents to ‘Yolanda’ survivors

Updated as of 11/28/2013 3:10 PMCEBU — An Australian cargo plane carrying 1,000 tentslanded at the Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base on Wednesday.
The Australian government donated the tents to the victims of super typhoon “Yolanda” in the Visayas.Australian Ambassador Bill Twedell turned over the tents to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and central command chief Lt. Gen. Rey Deveraturda.According to the DSWD, 500 more tents from Australia will arrive in the next few days.
Last Tuesday, an Australian navy ship carrying engineering equipment arrived in Ormoc City, Leyte.The equipment will be used in the repair of damaged buildings in Ormoc.
There are 400 Australian volunteers helping out in the relief operations in the Visayas. They will be staying until December 22.
