Bangladesh navy sends aid to Yolanda victims

MANILA – The Bangladesh Navy is sending assorted relief goods to the victims of super typhoon “Yolanda” in Eastern Visayas, the Philippine Navy said Thursday.

Lieutenant Commander Gregory Geral Fabic, Naval Public Affairs Office director, said the Bangladesh Navy ship “BNS Somudra Joy” is set to dock Friday at Pier 15 of Manila’s South Harbor carrying about 40 tons of assorted relief goods.

Fabic said the Bangladeshi ship will be in the Philippines from November 29 to December 1 for a goodwill visit.

“The visit is expected to enhance the bilateral relations between the Philippine Navy and Bangladesh Navy especially in providing mutual assistance during time of disasters like the recent typhoon that devastated the Eastern Visayas,” Fabic said.

The ambassador of Bangladesh to the Philippines will be hosting a dinner reception aboard the ship wherein he will be formally handing over relief goods to the Philippine government.

Likewise, Commodore Mohammad Nazmul Karim Kislu, the commanding officer of BNS Somudra Joy, will also have a courtesy call on Philippine Navy chief Vice Admiral Jose Luis Alano.Bangladesh has pledged $1 million for the typhoon victims, according to the government’s Foreign Aid Transparency Hub (FAiTH).
