brought together hundreds of volunteers from all walks of life (students, professionals, workers, housewives, retirees, the glamorous, and plain ordinary you and me) united with the purpose of providing hot and nutritious food at all hours day and night (it’s a 24-7 operation) to the survivors of typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan and the people supporting them.

It was inspiring.

I am humbled by the spirit of volunteerism that made all these strangers to each other take up the challenge and mince onions, peel eggs, mop floors, beg for donations, cajole, demand, borrow and anything short of stealing for the kitchen, do the marketing, make kuskos the kawa (brushing the huge pots, you know who you are), assume coordination posts (the young and the awake) and all other things that they might not have done before, all to keep the…
