After emerging as champion inside the ring last weekend, Filipino boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao showed his championship mettle outside the ring – with an auction for survivors of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).
Pacquiao auctioned off several of his personal items for the benefit of the Yolanda survivors, raising more than $100,000 in the process, according to GMA News’ Connie Sison.
In a post on her Instagram account, Sison said the items auctioned off included Pacquiao’s bloodied boxing shorts and gloves from his fight with Bradley.”
Just for one night, he raised more than a $100,000,” she said.In a separate Facebook post, Connie Sison said Pacquiao also auctioned off a 5-x-6 painting depicting the champ in the eye of the storm.
Good-hearted people of Beverly Hills also participated in the auction, she added.
It was not the first time Pacquiao showed his support for Yolanda’s survivors.
Last November, he dedicated his victory over Brandon Rios to them, and then spent a night in a tent at the Eastern Samar State University in Guiuan, Eastern Samar before giving aid to the victims. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
