A Year After Yolanda

Oct 31, 2014 – A week before the one year anniversary of Typhoon Yolanda, I tagged along with a couple of photojournalist friends to a small memorial mass and flower offering by a group of typhoon survivors in San, Jose, Tacloban City.

The following photos show survivors of typhoon Yolanda in Sitio Mahusay, San Jose preparing to cast flowers, candles and balloons to the sea in memory of the loved ones they lost to the super typhoon last year. The written the names of their wives, husbands, daughters, sons and siblings who fell victims to the storm surge brought by the super typhoon.

Some of the typhoon survivors were brought to tears as they cast the flowers and candles to the sea. And what more disheartening is the fact that after their simple ceremony, they will go back to their tents and temporary shelters a few meters away from the…
